Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach complete beginners?

Yes, I am very experienced with teaching students who have never picked up a guitar before, ensuring the lessons go at a pace that suits them. You won't be a beginner for long!

Where do you hold lessons?

I am a mobile teacher, so I am able to teach you in the comfort of your own home. I have found from experience that my students learn far better within a familiar environment and I am happy to travel to you, subject to availability, for our lessons.

Do you teach children?

Yes, I normally start teaching children at age 10 and over - get in touch for more information! I have a full DBS certificate for your peace of mind.

Can I learn Electric AND Acoustic guitar?

Of course, the choice is completely yours! I teach both electric guitar and acoustic guitar and have previously had many students learning both.

Do I need to own a guitar before I start my first lesson?

It is always good to have a guitar to practise on when you start your lessons but if not then you can borrow one during the first lesson.

I’m tone deaf and have never even touched an instrument in my entire life, do you think I can learn guitar?

Yes! Most people who think they are tone deaf actually aren’t, they just lack the training and practice needed to help them hear things in music. I have found that the more I play of a particular instrument, the easier I find it to pick those parts out of songs. This is essentially a fancy way of saying ‘practice makes perfect’!

Do I have to learn guitar by doing grades and exams?

Absolutely not! I personally do not teach grades. Though I do appreciate why some people like following a grading system, I don’t think it’s essential, and personally prefer to teach in a way that focuses more on helping you play in the way that’s best suited to you as an individual. Ultimately, I want to teach you to play guitar really well without having the added stress of exams!

Do I have a cancelations policy?

Yes, Guitar Lessons Cambridge operates a cancelation policy - you can read the full details of this here: Cancellations Policy
