Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach complete beginners?

Yes, I am very experienced with teaching students who have never picked up a guitar before, ensuring the lessons go at a pace that suits them. You won't be a beginner for long.

Where do you hold lessons?

I am a mobile teacher, so I am able to teach you in the comfort of your own home. I have found from experience that my students learn far better within a familiar environment and I am happy to travel to you, subject to availability, for our lessons.

Do you teach children?

Yes, I normally start teaching children at age 10 and over - get in touch for more information. I have a full DBS certificate for your peace of mind.

Can I learn Electric AND Acoustic guitar?

Of course, the choice is completely yours! I teach both electric guitar and acoustic guitar and have previously had many students learning both.

Do I need to own a guitar before I start my first lesson?

It is always good to have a guitar to practice on when you start your lessons but if not then you can borrow one during the first lesson. I will be delighted to help you and give you recommendations on Guitar Shops in Cambridge where you can purchase a guitar and accessories.

I’m tone deaf and have never even touched an instrument in my entire life, do you think I can learn guitar?

Yes! Most people who think they are tone deaf actually aren’t, they just lack the training and practice needed to help them hear things in music. I have found that the more I play of a particular instrument, the easier I find it to pick those parts out of songs. This is essentially a fancy way of saying ‘practice makes perfect’.

Do I have to learn the guitar by doing grades and exams?

Absolutely not. I personally do not teach grades. Though I do appreciate why some people like following a grading system, I don’t think it’s essential, and personally prefer to teach in a way that focuses more on helping you play in the way that’s best suited to you as an individual. Ultimately, I want to teach you to play the guitar really well without having the added stress of exams.

Do I have a cancellations policy?

Yes, Guitar Lessons Cambridge operates a cancellation policy - you can read the full details of this here: Cancellations Policy
